A glimpse into the career of the emperor of dubstep
Skrillex, whose real name is Sonny John Moore, was born on January 15, 1988 in Highland Park, California. According to the artist, the name “Skrillex” is a combination of his childhood nickname (Skrilly) and “ex.” In the very beginning of his solo career, Moore went by the signature “Twipz.”
Skrillex didn’t begin his career in music as a dubstep artist. In reality, he started out as the lead vocalist and guitarist of the band From First to Last. He was with the band for two albums before he ended up separating from the group in 2007 due to issues with his vocal chords.
Gypsyhook was Moore’s first EP or Extended Play, which is longer than a song but shorter than an album, released in 2009 under Twipz. On June 7, 2010, Skrillex released his first EP under his new name titled My Name Is Skrillex. It contained 6 songs that include a remix of his own song, the namesake of the EP. Four months later on October 22, 2010, Skrillex released his beloved EP Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites. Two of the albums most popular songs are its namesake and Rock n Roll (Will Take You to the Mountain). Below are the remainder of Moore’s EPs and albums.

Through his career, Skrillex has been in and out of 5 record labels. These are Mau5trance (deadmau5’s label), Asylum Records, Atlantic Records, Big Beat Records, Sony BMG, and his own label, OWLSA. In total, Skrillex has earned himself 6 Grammy Awards. According to the artist himself, his newest album is being delayed for one logical reason: the laptops with his music on it have been stolen.
