BREAKING NEWS: Notre Dame Cathedral On Fire
By Tommy D.
At 6:30 PM Paris Time, a heavy smoke filled the air and skyline of Paris, France. One of the most prominent and beloved scenes of Paris, the Notre Dame Cathedral, was on fire. Stunned, people watched as the fire spread, until finally, the roof caved in. This building, having lasted over 800 years, was crumbling to the ground before people’s eyes. The cause of the fire is still unknown, but some local TV stations are saying that the fire could be linked to the renovation of the building and rafters that had taken place.
Four hundred firefighters are fighting the blaze, but a spokesperson for the BBC said that there will be nothing left. The building is a landmark for everyone, even if they are not religious. The most recognizable part of the sculpture, the spire, was overcome by flames. There are several angles of footage that show the moment Notre Dame’s spire fell into the blaze. Spectators on the street witnessed that several colors of smoke and flame erupted.
Some theorists say that this fire is related to the one that occurred in September 2018 in Brazil. A massive fire erupted in the museum that held over 20 million artifacts. So far, 2,000 artifacts have been recovered, with hopes that more will be saved. Are these horrific events related? Is this the start of a dangerous trend? Is there a terrorist group bent on destroying pieces of the world’s history? If more news arises, The Monitor will report it as soon as possible.
