Tips for a Clearer Face
By Naomi W.
Clear skin, the goal of many teens, may seem to be getting harder and harder to achieve. Follow these tips to get rid of acne.
Blocked pores often cause acne. These pores are blocked with oil and dead skin cells. Bacteria also cause acne. Getting rid of acne and making sure that it stays away is not as simple as some may think. Some of the things that worsen acne are within our control, such as our diet and how often we exercise, while others, like hormones, cannot be controlled.
Healthy skin starts with a healthy daily routine. Diet is extremely important when it comes to having clear skin. Diets that are high in dairy and carbohydrates often cause breakouts to worsen. However, watching what you eat is not the only important aspect of a healthy routine. Daily exercise also helps clear your skin. Sweating allows your pores to open up and helps unblock blocked pores. Contrary to what many think, sweating does not cause breakouts. The last step to having a healthy routine when it comes to fighting those pimples and blackheads is washing your face. It may sound simple enough, but many people do not wash their face correctly.
The first thing that most people are doing wrong is picking the wrong product. Facial washes should remove dirt, makeup, and bacteria but not strip your skin of its healthy natural oils. Another issue is over washing your face. Washing your face in cool water once or twice a day is best. Constant washing strips your skin of its healthy cells. Do not dry your face by rubbing a towel on it. Pat it dry. Rubbing tugs and pulls on your skin. Also, make sure that the towel you use is fresh. Do not wait until your skin is dry to moisturize it. Add your moisturizers after washing, while your skin is still damp.
Fear not of oils: massaging your face with oils can actually help keep your face properly hydrated. Make sure that you gently wipe away all of the oil after massaging your face with it. Also, different oils work for different people. Some use coconut oil while others use sunflower oil. Additionally, make sure that you don’t believe all of the myths when it comes to keeping your skin acne-free. Remember, just because something works for one person doesn’t mean that it will work for you.
The myth that greasy foods will cause acne is completely false. However, touching your face after eating greasy foods can irritate your skin and cause breakouts. Acne is not caused by dirty skin. Clogged pores and bacteria that sit on your skin cause acne.
Not all makeup is created equal. Makeup won’t necessarily cause your skin to break out. Try using oil free makeup and make sure to wash all of it off at the end of the day. Toothpaste does not dry out pimples; it just irritates your skin and can cause breakouts to worsen. Sunscreen does not clog your pores; applying sunscreen helps to protect your skin from the sun’s UV rays that often cause damage to skin. Popping pimples do not make them go away; popping pimples can cause acne scars.
