Five Amazing Podcasts with Women Hosts
You may know Gaby Dunn from when she was employed at Buzzfeed and made videos on their Youtube channel. Since she’s been gone, she’s been managing a sketch comedy based Youtube channel with Allison Raskin (JustBetweenUs) and a podcast. Bad with Money is exactly what the title suggests. Gaby interviews different people to ask what their relationship with money is and gives tips on how to openly talk about it. The conversation can go from talking about what stocks are to how money effects people with disabilities. It’s a very open podcast that combats the fear people feel about being bad with money and in general talking about it openly.2: The Bossy Show (13+)
This podcast has only been airing for a little while, but it’s already one of my favorites. The Bossy Show is hosted by Jill Gutowitz and Carmen Rios. The podcast focuses on activism and politics. Each episode has one topic specifically and a guest to talk about it with. Guests have included people such as Lauren Jauregui, Jennette McCurdy, and Nan Aron, who is the president of Alliance for Justice. Topics have included reproductive rights, the woman’s march, and the Affordable Care Act. Each episode is short and inspiring if you are into activism.3: Call Your Girlfriend (13+)
Call Your Girlfriend is a podcast for long distance friends and includes two best friends that are often podcasting from different places. Ann Friedman and Aminatou Sow host the mix of pop culture and politics centered podcast. It’s one of those podcasts where it feels like you are listening to close friends talk about what they’ve been up to and you feel like you are in the room with them. It is funny and realistic.
4: Don’t Keep Your Day Job
This podcast is hosted by Cathy Heller who is a songwriter. The aim of the podcast is to get people who want to pursue jobs in creative fields the resources and inspiration to find a job that makes them happy. Cathy stresses the idea to do one thing every day that brings you closer to making a living out of your passion and interviews a bunch of people who have done that exact thing. So far she’s interviewed people in professions such as photography, cooking, and directing. Perhaps the most inspiring part is when people who listen to the podcast share what they are working on and how they plan to keep the creative energy going.
5: Girlboss Radio with Sophia Amoruso
Sophia Amoruso is the creator of Nasty Gal, the author of “#GIRLBOSS”, and has a Netflix show based around her life releasing in April. In her podcast, she interviews women who are girl bosses in their own right and see what kind of lessons they have learned in their careers. She’s interviewed people such as Yesi Ortiz, Jessica Williams, Emily Weiss, and Grace Helbig. Sophia states that through the podcast she “hopes to humanize the known, champion the unknown, and well, laugh a little about the absurdity that is life.”
