Winter break is also a time to relax and spend time with the kids away from required school lessons.  That doesn't mean that the learning stops.  Here are some more great ideas that let you watch your kids apply the skills they have been learning.

  • Counting the days:  With winter break just around the corner, your family probably has some exciting activites planned! Ask kids how many days there are until the fun event, like the start of winter break or a visit from grandma, and then ask again each day thereafter.  Perhaps you have a calendar nearby where you can mark the days off one by one.
  • Gift Wrapping:  When wrapping gifts, you can build math and measuring skills by asking kids to measure gifts with a tape measure or ruler to determine the correct amount of wrapping paper needed.
  • Read Everyday:  Winter break is a great time to enjoy your local library. Spend an afternoon selecting books about the season and enjoy reading with your children.

Enjoy your winter break!
