I really appreciate this article and all of the ideas for organizing a weekly/daily schedule.  As a full time speech pathologist and mother of three bright, busy children, one of my challenges in thinking about virtual school has been scheduling.  Thanks again for such a relevant article!

Thanks for your consideration Rachel! There can also be more than one designated Learning Coach. Another responsible adult can help you facilitate daily lessons and assignments, or you can share Learning Coach responsibilities with your partner who supports your student while you are away from home. Here are some more ways working parents can make virtual school work for them. You may also want to review these tips for balancing time between multiple students.

Great article. We only wish our son’s special ed teacher was more up to date with his schedule especially when it came to the state testings being done out of town.

Welcome Jennifer! Once the enrollment process is complete, it takes about 1-2 weeks before classes are set and teachers are assigned. Feel free to contact the school office if you have any questions.

My son will be in 8th grade next school year, we are looking into Connections Academy as an alternative. I am not sure of the entire process and I am feeling overwhelmed, I would like any advice from other parents who have gone through this process.
    Thank you.

We are considering virtual school next fall for my two children who will be in elementary school. This article is helpful – one question we had was if the children would have Live Lessons set up the same time each day or would they be different by the day? So for example, student would have Math Live Lesson Mon-Fri from 9-10 am? Thanks!

I am so grateful that I found this school for my daughter. I have come across some recent issues and was stressed about her going back to what I thought was a great public school for the next 2 years. So, once enrolled does the program start at any given time once materials are received or does it begin when the regular school year starts in August? Is there a “home school” that the student has to go to a couple of times out of the month or is it really all 100% online? I have registered for the information session, but honestly this site gave me all the information that I need to know; except for the 2 questions I mentioned earlier. I look forward to seeing what this school has to offer and if receptive, see how my daughter blossoms all the way around.

  9. Beth says:

    Good Morning, Sinita Verrette.

Thank you for your interest in Connections Academy!

Like a traditional brick-and-mortar school our schools have specific beginning and end dates. As such, most of them start sometime in August or early September and end in May. Not knowing which state you are in I am unable to tell you specifics, but if you go to the website for the academy your daughter will be enrolling in (go to http://www.connectionsacademy.com/online-school/availability and then Select a School in Your State via the dropdown in the middle of the page) the start and end dates for the 2016-2017 school year will be visible in the School Facts section along the right side of the page.

Regarding your second question: a few of our connections academies require students and parents to attend an in-person meeting prior to enrollment being completed, but none of them require that a student attend a physical school location during the school year. That being said, students are required to attend a pre-determined physical location for state testing and they have the option of attending in-person field trips, etc. I would also to make a quick note that in addition to our Connections Academies we also offer a few NEXUS Academies which are blended schools and require students to attend a physical, in-person location 50% of the time.

If you have any additional questions, or would like assistance creating an account with us, please call the Enrollment Office at 1-800-382-6010, M-F 9am-9pm EST.

    Best Regards,

    Beth

My daughter did 11th and 12th grade here. She graduated a few years ago. They have a beautiful graduation ceremony. Her teachers were always there when she needed help and very easy to speak with.. This school is better then any public school. It was so great she could do her work at any time of the day. There is no wasted time spent like in public schools. For anyone thinking about starting here it was so much better then I expected.

I would love to see an article on scheduling with more than one student. I have two this year, and hope to add a third next year.  After the first day, I am exhausted and we did 8 hours (one hour for lunch) and we are all scared about tomorrow?!?!? help
